Running Analysis
Running Analysis at Movement Perfected
Running-related injuries often develop over time due to the repetitive forces placed on the body, especially when those forces exceed the tissues’ ability to adapt. That’s why thorough screening is essential, not only for preventing injuries but also for guiding effective rehabilitation.
Our screening process uses functional movement assessments to evaluate a runner’s overall movement quality, strength, mobility, and biomechanics. By looking at the entire kinetic chain, we can identify potential “weak links”, such as hip weakness, movement inefficiencies, asymmetries, or limited mobility in key areas like the ankle or big toe, that may increase injury risk.
We also analyse measurable factors like running cadence, which can reveal biomechanical patterns linked to excessive loading. By pinpointing these deficits, we’re able to design tailored interventions, whether that’s corrective exercises, mobility work, or gait retraining, to address specific needs, reduce injury risk, and support recovery.
At Movement Perfected, we’ve developed a structured running screening protocol that provides a consistent, evidence-based framework for assessing running-related injuries. The result is a more comprehensive and effective rehabilitation experience, helping runners move better, stay healthy, and achieve their goals.
Why Running Injuries Happen
Running injuries are rarely caused by a single bad step. They tend to build up gradually, as small inefficiencies and imbalances accumulate load in the wrong places over time. Left unchecked, these patterns can lead to shin splints, runner’s knee, IT band syndrome, Achilles tendinopathy, stress fractures, and more.
Common contributors include:
• Muscle weakness or asymmetry between your left and right side
• Restricted mobility in key areas like the ankle or big toe
• Movement compensations that develop without you noticing
• Training load increasing faster than your body can adapt to it
Running analysis helps identify the root cause of these conditions. Our expert physiotherapists can pinpoint exactly where your movement is breaking down. We will provide a clear picture of what’s driving your injury risk, plus a personalised plan to correct it, including targeted strength and mobility exercises, gait retraining cues, and guidance on training load so you can keep running pain-free.

Our Approach
Our Running Analysis combines two complementary assessments to build a complete picture of how you move:
Functional Movement Assessment We evaluate your strength, mobility, balance and control across your entire kinetic chain — from your feet and ankles up through your hips and core. This helps us identify any “weak links” that could be increasing your injury risk or limiting your performance, even if you’re not currently in pain.
Running Gait Analysis Using video analysis, we assess your running technique from multiple angles while you run on a treadmill. We look at how your body absorbs and transfers force with every stride — things like foot strike pattern, cadence, and overall movement symmetry — to understand the biomechanics behind how you run, not just how you look while doing it.
Together, these assessments let us connect the dots between how you move in general and how that shows up specifically when you run.

Who It’s For
Whether you’re coming back from an injury or just want to run stronger, our Running Analysis is built around you and where you’re at right now.
Our Running Analysis is suited to:
• Runners recovering from or currently managing a running-related injury
• Runners who keep getting the same niggle back
• Anyone preparing for a big event (marathon, ultra, first 10K) who wants to reduce their injury risk
• Runners simply looking to move more efficiently and get more out of every session
