Using Your Private Health Insurance for Physiotherapy

If you have private health insurance, physiotherapy may be covered by your policy. At Movement Perfected we work with major insurers, including Bupa, Aviva, AXA, Cigna, and Vitality.

Before booking, check with your insurer if physiotherapy is covered under your policy. Most providers require a pre-authorisation or claim number to bill your insurer directly.

When speaking with your insurer, they may ask for:
• The name of your physiotherapy clinic – MOVEMENTPERFECTED
• The location of your appointment – Marylebone or Moorgate
• The type of treatment – Physiotherapy assessment and treatment
• The clinician’s provider number (listed in the sections below)

How to book an appointment

Your first session for a particular condition should be booked as an Initial or first session, and the correct insurance provider should be chosen.
Most sessions through insurance will be 30 minutes long, with some providers, such as Bupa, allowing an additional 15 minutes onto the first session.

You can book online here or contact us to start your treatment.

Booked the wrong session type by mistake? No problem, our reception team can quickly correct this for you.

You make payment to our clinic and then claim back from Cigna, we will provide all reports and information for your claim.

We invoice Vitality directly for you.

We invoice WPA directly for you.

What if my insurer is not listed among the major providers mentioned?

If your insurer is not listed, you may still be able to see us at MOVEMENTPERFECTED. Many policies reimburse treatment from recognised physiotherapists, even if the clinic is outside a direct-billing network.

In these cases, you would simply pay for your session and submit the invoice to your insurer for reimbursement. Our team can provide a detailed receipt and the information most insurers require to support your claim.

If you’re unsure about your policy, contact your insurer before booking to confirm how out-of-network claims are handled.

Frequently Asked Questions

If your insurer is unable to approve treatment or declines coverage, you are still welcome to attend as a self-funding patient. Many clients choose this option in order to begin treatment quickly rather than delay recovery.  In some cases, you can retrospectively claim back.

For direct-billing insurers, we usually invoice them after your appointment. Depending on your policy, you may still owe:
Policy excess payments
Co-payments per session
Treatment beyond the number of sessions authorised

If your insurer requires you to claim the treatment, payment is taken at your session, and you can submit the invoice for reimbursement.

• Your insurance membership or policy number
• Your pre-authorisation or claim number (if required by your insurer)
• The number of sessions approved by your insurer
• Any referral letters, scan reports, or medical notes related to your condition

Having this information ready helps us ensure your appointment and billing process run smoothly.

Many insurers allow you to see a physiotherapist without a GP referral, but some require you to speak to their clinical team or get a referral before treatment.

Contact your insurer first to confirm requirements and get pre-authorisation.

Coverage varies by policy and condition. Some approve 3–6 sessions, while others may authorise more after a clinical progress report.
If you need more sessions, we can help you with the process of extending your claim.

In most cases, yes. Many insurers let you choose a physiotherapist, as long as they are HCPC registered and recognised by your insurer.
At MOVEMENTPERFECTED, our physiotherapists are experienced musculoskeletal specialists who regularly treat private health insurance and consultant referrals.

After receiving your authorisation number, you can book your appointment at Marylebone or Moorgate immediately. To reschedule or cancel, contact us as soon as possible by phone, email, or our online system. Be aware that our standard cancellation policy may apply.

Early treatment often helps reduce pain more quickly and prevent injuries from becoming long-term problems.
