Physiotherapy Treatment Techniques at Movement Perfected
At Movement Perfected, our physiotherapy approach restores your body’s movement so you can return to daily activities, sport, and exercise with confidence. Every assessment is carefully designed for your individual needs and goals, assuring that your care is truly personalised. We help with your symptoms and work on the underlying factors contributing to pain, including joint mobility, muscle strength, coordination, and movement patterns.
Our clinics in Marylebone and Moorgate deliver evidence-based physiotherapy treatments to reduce pain, improve movement, and build lasting resilience. Treatments may include manual therapy, exercise therapy, shockwave therapy, dry needling, and objective strength testing with digital dynamometry.
During your initial assessment, your physiotherapist will first discuss your medical history, lifestyle, and your specific goals. They will then perform a series of physical tests to examine your movement, strength, posture, and joint function. Where appropriate, objective measurements may be taken to further understand your condition. This in-depth assessment forms the basis for developing a structured rehabilitation plan made to help you reach your goals. Our approach restores efficient movement, improves load transfer through the body, and supports recovery from back pain, neck pain, sports injuries, tendon irritation, and joint stiffness.
The treatments we outline below form the foundation of our physiotherapy care. We often combine them so as to provide the most effective path to recovery. For example, if you come to us with knee pain, your physiotherapist may use a combination of manual therapy to improve joint mobility, targeted strengthening exercises to support the muscles around your knee, and shockwave therapy to alleviate any persistent tendon irritation. By integrating these treatments, we can more effectively reduce pain, restore optimal movement, and help you return to your desired activities.

Manual Therapy
Manual therapy uses skilled hands-on techniques to reduce pain, improve joint mobility, and ease muscle tension. It is particularly beneficial for individuals with back or neck pain, muscle strains, joint stiffness, sports injuries, and conditions such as arthritis or repetitive strain injuries. Our physiotherapists assess how joints, muscles, and connective tissues move and apply targeted techniques to restore normal movement.
This may include gentle joint mobilisation, soft-tissue release, and movement guidance. By improving the coordinated movement of joints, muscles, fascia, bones, and surrounding structures, manual therapy helps reduce irritation and create the right environment for recovery.
Manual therapy is often combined with exercise therapy so that improvements gained during treatment translate into lasting functional change in everyday activities such as walking, sitting, and lifting.
Exercise Therapy
Exercise therapy forms the foundation of long-term recovery and, beyond that, functional improvement for many conditions. At MOVEMENTPERFECTED, we design personalised exercise programmes to improve strength, coordination, and control around the pelvis and spine.
The focus is not simply on strengthening individual muscles, but improving how key muscle groups work together to stabilise joints and transfer load efficiently during movement. Exercises may target the deep abdominal muscles, glutes, hip or shoulder stabilisers, and spinal support muscles. The target will be discussed and a plan will be developed to help you achieve your functional goal.
Clients are guided through progressive exercises that build confidence and resilience in everyday movements such as walking, climbing stairs, standing on one leg, and lifting.
The goal is to restore efficient movement patterns to reduce the likelihood of pain returning and to improve alignment and control, building confidence in your body. Alongside sessions, you will be provided with a personalised home exercise plan. Most clients are asked to practise their exercises daily or several times a week, with each session usually taking 10 to 20 minutes. Your physiotherapist will review your progress, adjust your programme as needed, and answer any questions, so you feel supported and know exactly what to work on between appointments.
Shockwave
Shockwave therapy uses focused acoustic waves to stimulate healing in irritated or overloaded tissues. It is particularly helpful when pain persists due to tendon irritation, muscle tightness, or chronic tissue sensitivity.
The treatment works by improving local circulation, encouraging tissue regeneration, and helping the body reset pain signalling. Sessions are short and performed in the clinic, with most patients experiencing improvement over several treatments. It is common to feel some mild discomfort during the procedure, and you may notice temporary redness, swelling, or tenderness in the treated area afterwards. These sensations generally resolve within a day or two. There is a good body of evidence for specific injuries, and our team’s training and experience can guide you on whether this is the right treatment for you.
Shockwave therapy is typically used alongside physiotherapy exercises and movement retraining so that tissues recover while strength and stability improve.
Dry Needling / Acupuncture
Dry needling and acupuncture are techniques used to relieve muscle tension and reduce pain. Very fine needles are placed into specific muscle points or trigger points to release tight tissue and improve circulation.
In certain conditions, muscles may become overactive or protective when pain develops. Dry needling helps relax these muscles and allows more normal movement to return. The team can guide you if this is the right process for you.
Many patients report reduced muscle tightness, improved mobility, and a sense of relief after treatment. During dry needling, you may feel a brief muscle twitch or mild discomfort as the needle is inserted, and sometimes a temporary ache or heaviness in the area. Some people also experience local soreness for a day or two afterwards, which usually settles quickly. While dry needling is considered safe when performed by a trained professional, it may not be suitable for everyone. For example, individuals with certain bleeding disorders, those taking blood-thinning medication, people with needle phobia, or those who are pregnant or have an infection at the proposed needle site should avoid dry needling. Your physiotherapist will assess if dry needling is appropriate for your specific circumstances and discuss any concerns with you beforehand. When combined with exercise therapy and movement retraining, dry needling can help accelerate recovery and restore comfortable movement. It has strong evidence supporting it and is very effective when targeted alongside other treatment modalities.
Digital dynamometory
Digital dynamometry allows us to objectively measure muscle strength using specialised handheld equipment. This provides accurate data on how well key muscles around joints to look at imbalances and gives you an objective measure to improve.
This technology enables us to quantify strength levels, identify imbalances, and track improvement over time. It is particularly useful in rehabilitation following injury or persistent pain. Seeing imbalances empowers you to know what to improve and helps you direct your energy to the right areas.
By measuring strength at different stages of recovery, we can tailor exercise programmes precisely and ensure progress occurs safely and effectively. Strength assessments are typically conducted at your initial appointment and then reviewed every 4 to 6 weeks or at key milestones in your plan. This means your progress is regularly monitored and your exercise programme can be updated to reflect your improvements and help you reach your goals.
Assesment, Treatment and Structured Plan
Every recovery journey at MOVEMENTPERFECTED begins with a detailed assessment. We evaluate movement patterns, joint mobility, muscle strength, and how your body transfers load during everyday activities.
From this assessment, we create a structured treatment plan that combines hands-on therapy, targeted exercises, and practical advice. The plan is designed to address the root causes of symptoms rather than simply temporarily reducing pain.
Clear milestones help guide recovery. These might include walking comfortably for longer distances, standing on one leg with good control, lifting without discomfort, or returning to exercise with confidence. To support your progress between sessions, we provide clear home exercise guidance and personalised exercises for you to practise on your own. This ongoing support ensures you can continue improving and stay on track with your recovery.
By combining expert assessment, personalised treatment, and progressive rehabilitation, our goal is to restore efficient movement so that your body feels stronger, more stable, and ready for daily life.
